Remi Bader's experience with the trendy drug

Content creator and model Remi Bader has opened up about her bad experience in the past with the now popular and trendy drug - Ozempic.

On the latest episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Bader shared that she is annoyed that this drug is gaining popularity for weight loss as it led to some negative outcomes for her, when she was prescribed it for "actual health issues," reported People Magazine.

What is this “weight loss” drug?

Ozempic is an FDA-approved prescription medication, typically used to help lower blood sugar in people with Type 2 diabetes. It's the brand name for semaglutide, which stimulates insulin production. It also targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite, according to the FDA. It is taken by injection in the thigh, stomach or arm.

Reports on its usage by celebrities

The drug has been trending on social media after TikTok users speculated that several celebrities who don't have diabetes or clinical obesity are using this drug for weight loss. Twitter CEO Elon Musk has been vocal about his weight loss transformation from this drug.

Binge-eating post stopping drug

On the podcast, Bader shared that her doctor recommended the FDA-approved Ozempic in 2020 because she was pre-diabetic, insulin resistant, and gaining weight.

Bader said it wasn't the best treatment for her as it later worsened her binge eating, which she's struggled with for years. She added that she was able to lose weight from the medication, however, her binge eating immediately returned when she stopped taking it.

She "gained double the weight back"

"I saw a doctor and they were like, it's 100% because I went on Ozempic," Bader said, adding, "It was making me think I wasn't hungry for so long, I lost some weight. I didn't wanna be obsessed with being on it long term. I was like, I bet the second I got off I'm gonna get starving again. I did, and my binging got so much worse. So then I kind of blamed Ozempic."

Bader said that she "gained double the weight back" after stopping the medication.

Shortage of drug for diabetic patients

Ozempic is listed as "currently on shortage" on the FDA's website. According to doctors, use of these medications strictly for weight loss is causing less availability for diabetic patients, whose lives are at risk without these drugs.
