Jowar is a superfood which can help you lose weight, along with nourishing your body. Eating jowar regularly can help to control your blood sugar and aid in weight loss. It also improves your digestion, along with giving the body essential vitamins, minerals and micronutrients. Jowar is also rich in iron content. Here are some interesting jowar recipes to add to your daily diet.

​Jowar vegetable chilla

Ingredients

  • 1/2 jowar flour
  • 1/2 cup wheat flour
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • Water as required

​Steps to prepare jowar vegetable chilla

Take a bowl and add the jowar flour and wheat flour, along with chopped ginger, onion and tomato. Next, add all the spices.

Add water and mix everything well to achieve the desired consistency for a chilla. Make sure it is neither too thick nor too runny. Now heat a pan and add some olive oil. Once the oil is heated, add the batter, spread it using the back of a spoon and let it cook from both sides until golden brown. Serve hot.

​Jowar and ragi paratha

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp jowar flour
  • 2 tbsp ragi flour
  • 2 tbsp soya flour
  • 1 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1/2 tsp ajwain
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Oil for cooking
  • Water for kneading the dough

​Steps to prepare jowar and ragi paratha

Combine all the flours and spices. Add water slowly and knead it all into a dough. Divide the dough into small portions and roll each other in the shape of a paratha. Heat a non-stick tawa and put some oil on it. Place the rolled out dough and cook from both sides till golden brown. Your healthy, low-oil paratha is ready. Serve with curd, sabzi or chutney.

​Jowar upma

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp refined oil
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1 cup jowar flour
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup green peas
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  • 6 curry leaves
  • 1/2 cup semolina
  • 2 tsp chilli garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cup water

​Steps to prepare jowar upma

Take a deep pan and add the oil. Let it heat. Add the mustard seeds and urad dal. Next, add asafoetida, curry leaves and sauté for a few seconds on a medium flame. Now, add the chopped onions and sauté for another minute. Add the semolina and jowar flour and cook for 2 more minutes while constantly stirring. Then, add the green peas, chilli garlic paste, chopped coriander and salt as per taste. Mix everything well together. Add water and mix everything well again. Let it cook well till the water is absorbed. Serve hot.

​Jowar-gur ladoo

Ingredients

  • 2 cups jowar flour
  • 1 cup jaggery
  • 3 tablespoon ghee

Steps to prepare jowar-gur ladoo

Take a kadhai, heat ghee and roast the jowar flour in it. Once roasted, lower the flame and add jaggery to it. Stir continuously till the jaggery melts. Mix everything well together. Switch off the flame and let the mixture cool down a bit. Smear ghee on your hands and make small ladoos out of the soft dough.
