Unhealthy drinking practices contribute to weight gain

Weight loss involves a holistic approach instead of a single target strategy. In order to remove the extra weight you need to focus on weight management first and then you should check your mental preparedness for the same. One should understand the factors behind the weight gain, how addicted you are to the causative factors and what you should do to keep the overindulgence in check.

One of the many factors that contribute to weight gain is unhealthy drinking practice. Sounds strange, but it's true that abnormal drinking habits are more likely to put a person into obesity contrary to the belief that drinking has no role in weight gain.

Here are few drinking habits that one should put into habit in order to manage weight:

​Drink more water

Having less water not only hinders weight management, it also disturbs the overall ambience of the body. Ideally an adult should drink 2-4 litres of water per day. Drinking sufficient water helps burn fat and suppresses the appetite which is essential for weight loss.

Apart from weight loss, water provides a number of other benefits to human health. "The daily four-to-six cup rule is for generally healthy people. It's possible to take in too much water if you have certain health conditions, such as thyroid disease or kidney, liver, or heart problems; or if you're taking medications that make you retain water, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), opiate pain medications, and some antidepressants," says a Harvard Health report.

​Add cinnamon to your evening coffee

Experts say that the ability of the cinnamon to manage the blood glucose level is immensely helpful in weight management. Cinnamon contains anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial benefits which is another blessing for those trying to lose weight. One teaspoon of cinnamon does contain 1.6 grams of fiber which again makes it an ideal candidate for weight loss.

​Replace green tea with every other drinks

Green tea contains a small amount of caffeine which is a popular stimulant for burning fat. It also contains antioxidants called catechins which are known to boost metabolism. High metabolism is the key to weight loss.

​Reduce alcohol consumption

As per a report, alcohol can cause weight gain in four ways: it stops your body from burning fat, it's high in kilojoules, it can make you feel hungry , and it can lead to poor food choices. Alcohol consumption is known to lead to beer belly in men.

A study says regular drinking leads to 41% higher risk of getting overweight; those who are already overweight, the risk of getting obese increases by 35%.

​Black coffee is the best

Ditch heavy coffees and start having simple black coffee every morning. Though it is difficult to get acquainted with the taste of black coffee as it is without creams, sweeteners, syrups and sugar, having black coffee regularly decreases the belly fat and reduces the extra weight. As per some experts, black coffee has chlorogenic acid which is very helpful to burn fat.
