Despite having carbs in all 3 meals, this girl lost 24 kgs
Following in the steps of her health conscious mother, Karishma Assudani only realized that she needed to lose weight when quite a few things in her life were going astray. Taking control once again, weight loss was a part of her life’s restructuring. Here’s her journey from fat to fit in a year.
Name: Karishma Assudani
Occupation: Lawyer
Age: 23 years
Highest weight recorded: 87 kilos
Weight lost: 24 kilos
Duration it took me to lose weight: 1 year
The turning point: I had wanted to lose weight since the 10th grade. My mother was an inspiration because she had always been very health conscious. That affected me a lot and it made me realise that being on the right weight is of utmost importance. I had lost 8 kilos about two years ago as well but I gained it back. So, one fine night, I decided that it was time to lose weight for good.
My breakfast: Comprised of the following 2 meals:
6.30 am: One apple with 35 grams of oats porridge/1 bowl wheat flakes and 2 almonds
9 am: Idli sambar/Bread omelette/2 slices of brown bread with slim cheese (1 slice)
My lunch: 1 glass buttermilk + 2 tsp flax seeds + 2 phulkas/1/2 bowl rice + 2 bowls daal + 1 bowl sabzi
My dinner: 1 phulka + 1 bowl daal + 1/2 bowl sabzi + sometimes chicken tandoori (200 grams)
I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days): White pasta, chicken, chocolate dessert with mocha, etc.
My workout: 3 days cardio and 3 days weight training
Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Oats porridge, grilled chicken salad
Fitness secrets I unveiled: Eat everything, all fruits, all grains and ghee, at the right time and in the right quantities. For a better idea, please read 'Don’t Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight' by Rujuta Diwekar.
How do I stay motivated?
By taking a look in the mirror.
How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?
Again, take a look in the mirror.
What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?Living with low self-worth and low self-esteem, which I realised gets a good boost after weight loss.
What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?Just the same way I am right now. Maybe, having indulged in some more muscle-building and body-toning.
What are the lifestyle changes you made?I started eating 6 meals a day along with workout at least 4-5 days a week.
What was the lowest point for you?One night, I broke down because of certain things that were going on with me, some because of my weight. I decided I needed to take charge of my life. Weight loss was a part of the restructuring.
Lessons learnt from weight loss:You never have to starve yourself to lose weight. Always eat healthy and well, there can be one cheat day in a week where you can have a guilt-free freakout. Also, consult a dietician. Lose weight once and see how the world changes for you. I promise! You definitely start feeling better about yourself.
