Swimming and weight loss

You really want to slim down and lose some weight but the idea of sweating after work in this heat almost feels like a torture. If you find this relatable, then we have the perfect workout activity for you. Go for some refreshing swimming classes or if you are a pro, why aren’t you at the pool already?

Swimming is a fantastic full-body workout. When you're moving in water, every pull, push, stroke, and kick you make works against the natural resistance of the water itself. Club it with a few swimming exercises and you will increase calorie burn, get toned muscle and lose weight. So get your costume on and hit the nearest swimming pool to try these strokes and exercises.

2/5

For flat stomach

This exercise requires the use of a pool noodle, which makes you float while creating an imbalance in your posture which makes your abdominal muscles work the hardest. With your body vertical and the pool noodle under each arm, stretch your legs out horizontally, before opening them as you breathe in and closing them as you breathe out. Do not touch the floor and do not lie down. Try to position yourself as if you were sitting on a chair.

3/5

For toned abs

If you want to work your abdominal muscles, strokes and leg kicks will be your best bet Whether on your stomach, on your back or on your side, these leg exercises with a kickboard are very effective at strengthening your abs. Without exerting too much effort, contract your abs while focusing on remaining streamlined and keep your chest high out of the water. This will help you to swim faster and work your core muscles, without tiring yourself out.

4/5

For slim arms

To tone your arms in the pool, stand with your feet together, shoulders underwater and arms outstretched in front of you. Now, make scissor movements with your arms. When you do the outward movement, try to turn the palms of your hands outward. Similarly, when you make the inward movement, turn the palms of your hands inward. Try to alternate a set with small scissors and another with larger scissors. This exercise not only strengthens and tones the arms but is also beneficial for the upper back, abs and shoulders.

5/5

For thin legs

The key to getting great legs is to keep your legs constantly moving. Two strokes that really get a great leg workout are the backstroke and the dolphin kick. Both of these strokes still use the whole body, but are performed with high intensity, especially for the legs. The backstroke and dolphin kick work the best because they use the whole leg for the kick. For the flutter kick backstroke, remember that the movement should come from your thighs and not your knees. Make sure that your knees don’t go too deep and remember to point your toes. For the dolphin kick, the easiest way to do it is with your hands out in front of you and your legs together. The whip movement goes from nose to toes.
