Yellow yellow not a dirty fellow

Yellow is a colour which not only dominates our colour palette but also the food kingdom. Studies suggest that your plate should contain a 4:3 ratio of vegetables and fruits in different colours preferably. One of the most prominent colours for us to include in our daily diet is yellow. Yellow foods have a list of health benefits. Let’s take a look at the various qualities of yellow-pigmented vegetables and fruits:

Carotenoids:

Yellow foods contain carotenoids, which are responsible for its bright and light colour. Carotenoids include two kinds: beta-carotene and beta-cryptoxanthin. Once a yellow veggie or fruit is consumed, our body converts it into vitamin A, which has great health benefits.

Anti-oxidants

Anti-oxidants prevent cell damage caused by oxidants. Beta-cryptoxanthin and vitamin C are such anti-oxidants, which help in the protection of our cells.

 Strong eyesight

The carotenoids get converted into vitamin A inside the body thereby aiding overall eye health. It also reduces the risk of macular degeneration of eyes, which causes vision loss.

5/8

Decreased risk of cancer

A study by the Harvard medical school revealed that four distinct types of carotenoids reduced the risk of breast cancer. These carotenoids, according to the study, inhibit tumor progression and reduce the spread of estrogen receptor breast cancer.

Therapeutic in nature

Art therapy is an ancient method to heal. According to its practitioners, yellow is a joyous secondary colour, which helps stimulate the elimination of body waste. Yellow foods are known to create a laxative effect.

7/8

 Wide variety

Bananas, yellow bell peppers, pineapples, turmeric, pumpkin, corns, apricots, sweet potatoes, mangoes are some common fruits and veggies, which you can include in your everyday diet and make your plate colourful and vibrant!
