10 people literally DIED from laughing too hard! No kidding!

10 PEOPLE LITERALLY DIED FROM LAUGHING TOO HARD!NO KIDDING! We are sure that all of you must have laughed to an extent where your stomach would have started hurting. But have you ever laughed so hard and for so long that you felt you will almost die laughing? We don’t know if the feeling is relatable but this is possible, literally. Not the laughter but the body’s reaction to it may kill you. Sounds a little insane, doesn't it? But sadly enough, it's true.

The data

THE DATA: There are 10 cases, some historical and unverified while other modern and documented, where people have actually died of laughter. One of these was Damnoen Saen-Um, who was an ice cream truck driver and is said to be dead due to laughter. According to her wife, after two minutes of non-stop laughter, he stopped breathing. She discovered that he was dead due to heart failure or asphyxiation.

Medical reasons

MEDICAL REASONS: There is more than one medical reason why laughing hard may kill you. Some of the reasons include cardiac arrest, collapsed lungs, strangulated hernia, stroke, ruptured brain aneurysm and gelastic seizures.

Cataplexy and syncope

CATAPLEXY AND SYNCOPE: Cataplexy is a condition where you are conscious but unable to move your muscles and laughter can trigger cataplexy. But another important fact is that laughter can trigger cataplexy but cannot cause it, so cataplexy comes first. Laughter can also cause syncope, which means fainting. Syncope is an outcome of a situation when someone is overexcited for a long period and that over-excitement leads to an abnormal rapid rate of breathing. This in turn leads to increase in the rate of carbon dioxide loss. Laughter leads to light-headedness, which can lead to fainting.

Other problems

OTHER PROBLEMS: Losing control of your laughter can be scary. Some people black out when they laugh but still cannot control their laughter. People who have existing medical issues, laughter can be scary for them. Laughter, when it starts putting a strain on your body, can lead to deadly problems.
