The best jobs for those with anxiety disorder!

For those suffering from anxiety disorders, finding a job that helps you feel comfortable can be a daunting task. Work can be socially demanding which is not exactly an ideal setting for someone who gets very anxious.

In fact, your choice of job can also dictate how you cope with anxiety. There are certain jobs that help you manage your symptoms better, while others make them worse.

2/10

The list

But this does not mean that you should opt for jobs which don’t require social interactions at all.

It is extremely important that you know your triggers well so that you can have a control over them. Below is a list of best jobs for people living with anxiety disorder:

3/10

Dog trainer

One of the best jobs for those suffering from anxiety is being an animal care worker. It involves less contact with humans but still enough interactions on a daily basis (pet owners). If you enjoy spending time with animals, especially dogs, it can be the job for you. Since a lot of studies have pointed out that when we pet an animal, our brain releases feel-good hormones, here is an extra incentive to be an animal care worker.

4/10

Writer

While initially, it can be hard to make a living if you are aiming to be a writer, there is no denying that being a writer is a dream job for many. Whether it is columns, articles, short stories or novels, it is a job that gives you the freedom to work alone. As you go up the ladder and write well, you can become a published writer as well. Also, in writer conferences being with like-minded people can also give you the much-needed boost to interact with others.

5/10

Tech worker

It doesn't matter whether you are a software engineer or a graphic designer, there is a certain level of independence that comes with a technical job. This basically means you can do your work, without dealing with a lot of customers or someone hovering all over you. People who are employed as computer professionals are expected to have better analytical skills when compared to communication skills.

6/10

Self-employed/Entrepreneurs

When you are self-employed, there are no mandatory office meetings or outings where you need to have forced interactions. You have total control over what you wish to do and once you begin to do well with your business, you can hire people and assign the work you don’t want to do. But do keep in mind that you will have to interact with customers and potential investors which will challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and face social situations.

7/10

Therapist

While it may sound counterproductive to work as a therapist if you are suffering from anxiety yourself, give it a thought. You will be able to understand your clients and patients better since you can relate with them personally. Although, it is important that you are in control of your own symptoms and don’t let others anxiety worsen your mental health.

8/10

It is also important to cope with anxiety

These jobs may provide you with some comfort by lessening your social interactions, but completely avoiding social situations can actually do more harm than good. The ideal way to deal with anxiety at workplace is to take baby-steps instead of trying to handle everything at once.

9/10

Know what works for you

Finding a job that helps your anxiety symptoms or even helps in managing the triggers can actually make a huge impact overall. If the possibility of taking a full time job overwhelms you, consider taking a part-time job. Start with an internship if possible to understand whether the job is a good fit for you or not.

10/10

Don’t let anxiety rule your life

Living with anxiety is like being on the edge, all the time. You have to practice and rehearse interactions, what other people can do effortlessly. It is depleting and exhausting but don’t let it come in the way of living your life and chasing your dreams. Get out of your comfort zone and do one thing daily that makes you anxious, whether it is interacting with coworkers or going out for a group activity.
