Mental disorders of 4 cartoon characters:

MENTAL DISORDERS OF 4 CARTOON CHARACTERS: While most of us have actually grown up watching cartoons. We love to binge-watch on some of these iconic shows even today--whether it is Tom & Jerry and day-dream about getting your hands on the gadgets used by Doraemon.

It is only when you rewatch your childhood's classics that you realise that there is something which is not quite right with your favourite cartoon character and they are suffering from a mental health disease.

Don’t believe us? While it is difficult to imagine your goofy, yet, lovable character characters suffering from a mental disease-- we list down 4 of your beloved cartoons and break-down the possible mental disorders they suffer from.

Elsa: Frozen

ELSA: FROZEN: This one is a no-brainer. Didn't the lines-- “ Don't let them in, don't let them see, Be the good girl you always have to be, Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know”--pretty much sum her depression up?

So while watching Frozen, if you had a gut feeling that there was something wrong with Elsa, your guess were pretty bang-on.

Elsa-- the elder sister from Frozen who had magical powers--accidentally hurts her younger sister Anna in the beginning of the movie. As a result, Elsa turns reclusive and hides from the rest of the world. She stops playing with her sister and refrains from making snowman and ice-skating--something they both enjoyed doing together.

Her extreme guilt prevents her from opening to people--worried that she might hurt them--and traps herself on a mountaintop so that no one can even come close to her.

Elsa also has a very low self-esteem which is evident from the song lyrics mentioned above.

Diagnosis: Depression and Anxiety

DIAGNOSIS: DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY: Still, don’t trust us? Writer and director of the movie, Jennifer Lee stated on Twitter that the character's body language and mannerisms were "intentional to show anxiety and depression".

4/9

Ariel: The Little Mermaid

ARIEL: THE LITTLE MERMAID: Do you keep collecting stuff from everywhere and keep it safely with you ‘just in case’ you may need it ‘someday’? It is smart to keep things handy--that you may need in future-- as long as you purge your closet often.

Now think about Ariel, the little mermaid, and notice how she collects almost everything and anything she can catch hold on from the ‘human’ world--including the very famous 'dinglehopper' aka fork.

5/9

Diagnosis: Disposophobia

DIAGNOSIS: DISPOSOPHOBIA: Ariel suffers from Disposophobia--also known as hoarding disorder--which results in a chronic difficulty of throwing things away due to an attachment to one’s objects. Remember Ariel’s cave?

6/9

Spongebob Squarepants

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS: While at the first glance, Spongebob Squarepants, also known as SpongeBob, may seem a jolly, outgoing character, but if you monitor closely, other behavioural traits such as awkwardness, attention deficit disorder and even anxiety are pretty evident.

If you remember the episode where “Musclebob Buffpants”, you will recall that he had a constant struggle with low muscle mass. People suffering from Williams-Beuren Syndrome inhibit the same symptoms.

7/9

Diagnosis: Williams-Beuren Syndrome

DIAGNOSIS: WILLIAMS-BEUREN SYNDROME: Apparently the goofy spongebob was suffering from Williams-Beuren Syndrome.

8/9

Belle: Beauty and the Beast

BELLE: BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: Remember Alia Bhatt in the movie Highway? She played the role of a girl who develops Stockholm disorder after she was kidnapped by Mahabir played by Randeep Hooda.

Now connect the dots from Alia to Belle from the Beauty and the Beast. She actually falls in love with the Beast, even when he literally forced her to stay in his castle. Before she became his princess, Belle was clearly his prisoner, after she agreed to stay in the castle on the condition that he freed her father.

Imagine falling in love with this monster in the literal sense, who growls and yells at you?

9/9

Diagnosis: Stockholm Syndrome

DIAGNOSIS: STOCKHOLM SYNDROME: Sorry Belle, that surely wasn't love, it was Stockholm syndrome, which according to Wikipedia is a condition that causes hostages to develop a psychological alliance with their captors as a survival strategy during captivity.
