How many times should you have kadha in a day?

Ever since the coronavirus pandemic hit our lives, many households follow a regular routine of drinking kadha every single day. From boosting our immunity to improving our overall health, drinking kadha is said to have various health benefits. But like is the case with everything, overconsumption of kadha too can have side effects and may prove dangerous.

We talked to Dr Rakhi Nagar, BAMS, PGCPK, Ayurveda consultant and Panchakarma specialist, to know about the number of times one should have kadha every day (and also the right quantity).

The number of times you should have kadha in a day

As per Dr Rakhi, the amount of kadha one should have depends greatly on one's Ayurvedic body type.

Read here: Know your Ayurvedic body type

Vata body type: People with this body type can have kadha two times in a day. These people can also add some ghee in their kadha to avoid dryness in their body.

Pitta body type: People with pitta body type should not have kadha more than once a day. Also, these people should never have kadha on an empty stomach. The best time to have kadha for people with pitta body type is evening.

Kapha body type: People with Kapha body can consume kadha 2-3 times a day. In fact, these people are more prone to getting viral illness and thus kadha is like a nectar for them.

Side effects of having too much kadha

It is important to note that the common ingredients used to make kadha produce heat in the body and too much of it can lead to certain issues. If you are having kadha every day and you witness any of the below symptoms, it's a sign that you are having too much of it.

- Bleeding from the nose

- Boils in mouth

- Too much acidity

- Indigestion

- Problem is passing urine

4/5

The right quantity to be consumed at once

One serving of kadha should not be more than 50ml. You can put 100 ml of water with kadha ingredients and let it boil till it reduces to 50ml.

5/5

Note for people with vata and pitta dosha

Kadha eliminates cough and thus is highly suitable for people suffering from Kapha dosha. Additionally, people who have vata and pitta body type should be careful while adding ingredients like black pepper, cinnamon and sonth in their kadha.
