Dengue cases on rise in India; these drinks may help fight the disease

​Fight dengue infection

Dengue cases have been soaring in as many as 12 states in India, especially since October, according to official data. As per experts, a delayed monsoon withdrawal has promoted prolonged breeding of the vector-borne mosquitoes.

India recorded 63,280 dengue cases as of September 30, 2022, data shared by the National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control stated. Delhi recorded its first fatality due to dengue this year on November 2.

According to health experts, there is no single antiviral medication that can treat dengue. Therefore, maintenance therapies like oral rehydration, antipyretics to reduce fever, etc., are crucial. Patients with severe symptoms are provided best care in a hospital.

Dengue patients should keep themselves hydrated, and drink a maximum of 4 litres of water every day. Here are some drinks that can aid people suffering from dengue fever.

​Giloy juice

Giloy is a herb, and giloy juice improves metabolism and builds immunity, which can help your body in fighting dengue fever. You can boil two small stems of a giloy plant with a glass of water. Consume this water when it is lukewarm. Make sure you do not over consume giloy juice.

​Papaya leaf juice

Papaya leaf juice is a popular remedy to increase platelet count, which goes down in dengue patients. It also helps to strengthen your immunity. Take some papaya leaves and crush them to extract juice out. Consume a small quantity of papaya leaf juice twice a day.

​Fresh guava juice

Guava juice is rich in vitamin C which boosts the much-needed immunity. Make sure you prepare fresh guava juice instead of drinking packaged juices. You can also eat fresh guava instead of juice.

​Tulsi water

Tulsi leaves have been used to prevent dengue fever traditionally. It is believed to help in fighting infection and aids speedy recovery. Boil fresh tulsi leaves in water and strain. You can also add some lemon juice or honey in the drink.

​Karela juice

As per some studies, Karela extract has shown inhibitory action against the multiplication of dengue virus. To make the juice, peel the skin first and chop it into pieces. Add a glass of water and blend it. Once blended, strain the liquid. You can add more water for the bitter taste.
