Want to look young and be healthy? Try these five Harvard nutritionist-approved foods to boost stem cells for organ and skin repair

Want to look and feel healthy? The key is closer than you think - right on your plate! Yes, that’s right. No expensive medications or procedures to transform into the best version of yourself. Just some slight adjustments in your diet, and no, they won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Dr. Terry Shintani, MD, a Harvard-trained nutritionist, has shared a list of foods that can boost the stem cells. Emerging research suggests the role of these specific foods in boosting stem cell counts in the bloodstream, which can aid in repairing damaged organs and skin. Stem cells are the body’s repair system, capable of regenerating tissues and supporting organ function. Increasing their circulation in the blood can accelerate healing and maintain vitality. Here are five foods suggested by the Harvard-trained nutritionist, and backed by research to support stem cell proliferation.

2/7

Strawberries

Who knew looking and feeling youthful and healthy could be this easy and delicious! First on the nutritionist’s list is strawberries. Strawberries are packed with anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants that are responsible for their vibrant red color. These compounds have been shown to stimulate stem cell growth, supportingtissue repair. Anthocyanins enhance the proliferation of mesenchymal stem cells, which are critical for regenerating skin and connective tissues.

3/7

Cruciferous vegetables

Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, and kale, among others, contain sulforaphane, a compound linked to increased stem cell production. Sulforaphane activates pathways that promote stem cell activity, particularly in repairing damaged organs. Incorporating these vegetables into stir-fries or salads can support both health and recovery.

4/7

Garlic

No wonder why ancestors kept garlic so close to their diet. Known for their medicinal properties, garlic has organosulfur compounds, such as allicin. They do more than add flavor to dishes. They also enhance stem cell production. These compounds stimulate hematopoietic stem cells, which are essential for blood and immune system health. Consider adding fresh or roasted garlic to meals.

5/7

Mushrooms

Mushrooms are nature’s gift to humankind. Edible mushrooms such as shiitake, maitake, and reishi are known for their immune-boosting properties. These mushrooms also promote stem cell production. The polysaccharides in these mushrooms increase circulating stem cells and support organ repair. You can incorporate mushrooms into soups, stir-fries, or even teas can harness their regenerative benefits.

6/7

Dark chocolate

Good news for chocolate lovers. That post-lunch indulgence could be the reason for your youthful glow and good health! Dark chocolate is rich inflavonoids, which can significantly boost stem cell counts. Studies have found that flavonoid-rich cocoa doubled circulating stem cells, which aid cardiovascular and skin repair. While buying chocolates, consider opting for dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa content. Remember to enjoy it in moderation.
