While the winter provides relief from the harsh summer heat, often, the cold also tends to make people fall sick. Cough and flu are some of the most common ailments of the season, there are others too that might affect you. Hence, to stay hale and healthy, one needs to be very careful during winter and adopt measures to keep sickness at bay. Here are some:
Exercise regularly: Winter makes you lethargic and it is not easy to stay agile, but, one of the best ways to stay healthy in this weather is by exercising. Exercising on a daily basis increases one’s immunity. But be careful not to overdo it. Work out for 20-minutes every day and include cardio in it.
Eat well: Maintain a balanced diet including a lot of green leafy vegetables and fruits that are rich in vitamin C. Include vegetables like beetroot, carrots and broccoli in your diet. Fruits can also be consumed in the form of juice. Dry fruits in small measure are good.
Sleep well: Though eating well and exercising are some of the important elements to stay away from falling sick, it won’t be effective unless supplemented with proper rest. You need to sleep well to provide proper rest to your body. At least seven to eight hours of sleep every night is a must for the body to be rejuvenated.
Include vitamins: Fruits and vegetables do supply the body with vitamins, but it is a good idea to take supplements in the winter as it keeps the body energized and rejuvenated and helps increase immunity. A regular intake of vitamin D will help you fight cold during winters.
Wash your hands regularly: It might sound a little ridiculous to keep washing your hands regularly during the winter, but this way, you can keep yourself safe from a lot of bacteria. Use a hand wash solution and top it off with an anti-bacterial hand lotion or cream.
Stay hydrated: No matter what season you are in, staying hydrated is very important — all the more during the winter. Carry a bottle of water with you at all times; it doesn’t necessarily have to be plain water. You can flavour your water with the fruits that you prefer and keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.
Manage your weight: It’s very easy to gain weight during winter due to a lack of activity and also through indulgence. Steer clear of such indulgences and maintain a healthy lifestyle that will enable you to stay on top of the game and maintain a healthy weight.
