The 4 foods that help lower the risk of cancer

Certain foods nourish more than just our bodies; they also protect it from harmful diseases such as cancer. Research shows that what is on your plate matters more than powerful antibiotics and treatments and plays a much larger role in preventing chronic diseases, including cancer. These 5 foods are loaded with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory compounds, and natural protective agents. Easy to include in our everyday diet and backed by science, these are incredibly effective when consumed consistently. (Source: NIH.gov)

2/6

Berries (Blueberries, Strawberries, Amla)

Berries are antioxidant superstars, high in vitamin C, fiber, and anti-cancer phytonutrients such as anthocyanins. They can neutralize free radicals that kill cells and potentially cause cancer. Amla or the Indian gooseberry is particularly high in polyphenols and has been associated with immunity-boosting and liver-protective effects. Berries can be blended into smoothies, added to oats, or enjoyed fresh as a snack. A handful a day can provide substantial protection in the long run.

3/6

Broccoli & Cauliflower

These vegetables contain high concentrations of natural plant compounds such as sulforaphane and glucosinolates, which detox the body and inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Cruciferous vegetables enhance liver function and promote digestion, making them perfect for everyday meals. Steam lightly, roast, or add to salads—deliciously easy to prepare and profoundly protective, especially against colon, breast, and lung cancers. A few servings weekly can significantly contribute.

4/6

Garlic + Turmeric

Employed in home kitchens for hundreds of years, garlic and turmeric are potent anti-inflammatory spices with anti-cancer properties. Garlic is rich in allicin, which inhibits cancer cell growth and stimulates immune function. Turmeric's active component, curcumin, has been found to inhibit inflammation and disrupt tumor formation. Tossing fresh garlic onto meals or turmeric into teas and curries is a simple method of enhancing overall wellness; these two should be part of daily cooking for more than flavor.

5/6

Almonds & Walnuts

Nuts contain healthy fats, antioxidants, and minerals such as selenium and vitamin E that aid cell repair and curtail inflammation. Walnuts, in addition to omega-3s and polyphenols, have been shown to slow cancer cell growth. Almonds balance hormones and offer fiber. A daily handful of mixed nuts is an easy, gratifying method for securing long-term health. They also benefit brain, skin, and heart health, a win all the way around.
