Actor Shannen Doherty has recently posted on social media about her breast cancer which has metastasized to the brain. The “Beverly Hills, 90210” star's post on Instagram is captioned starting with "January 12, 2023"
In the long post, Shannen reveals the current state of cancer.

"January 12, 2023. On January 5th, my ct scan showed Mets in my brain. Yesterdays video was showing the process of getting fitted for the mask which you wear during radiation to your brain. January 12, the first round of radiation took place. My fear is obvious. I am extremely claustrophobic and there was a lot going on in my life. I am fortunate as I have great doctors like Dr Amin Mirahdi and the amazing techs at cedar sinai. But that fear…. The turmoil….. the timing of it all…. This is what cancer can look like," she wrote on Instagram.

She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015
As per reports, Shannen was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. In 2020, she had announced the cancer had returned and was stage 4. She had publicly announced her health on ABC News. She underwent mastectomy and received radiation therapy and chemotherapy during the first time she was diagnosed with cancer. She was in remission in 2017 and two years later she was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer.

Breast cancer burden to increase by 40% by 2040
Researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and partner institutions have predicted that by 2040 the breast cancer burden will increase to more than 3 million new cases per year. The researchers have estimated a 40% jump in the number of breast cancer cases and over one million deaths due to it.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) says in 95% of the countries, breast cancer is either the first or the second leading cause of deaths among females with cancer.
In 2020, 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer.
What are the risk factors of breast cancer?
Among the common risk factors of breast cancer are age, binge alcohol drinking, family history of the disease and reproductive history.
Other factors like history of radiation exposure, tobacco use and hormone therapy also increase the risk of breast cancer.
One can reduce the risk by weight control, avoiding consumption of alcohol, regular physical activity, breast feeding, and avoiding prolonged use of hormones.
Female gender is a big risk factor of breast cancer so females need to be more alert about this disease. Self examination of the breasts is important.
