Saif Ali Khan stabbed near spine: Know how this injury can affect health
The attack on actor Saif Ali Khan has shocked the entire nation. As per reports, the actor was attacked in his house in Bandra by intruders and the actor was stabbed 6 times, including two deep cuts, while trying to save his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan and his sons.
One of the 6 stabs on Saif Ali Khan is said to be near the spine. A stab wound near the spine poses significant risks due to the proximity of vital structures, including the spinal cord, nerves, blood vessels, and organs. The severity depends on the depth, angle, and location of the wound.
"A stab wound near the spine can be fatal depending on the severity and location of the injury. The spine contains the spinal cord, which is an essential part of the body responsible for transmitting messages from the brain to the rest of the organs. Damage to the spinal cord can lead to paralysis, numbness, or permanent disability. It also may damage some major blood vessels and nerves around the spine that can lead to nerve damage or fatal bleeding," explained Dr. Akhilesh Yadav, Associate Director- Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement, Max Super Speciality Hospital Vaishali.
Damage to the spinal cord can result in partial or complete paralysis below the injury site. Even minor trauma to the spinal cord or surrounding nerves may cause chronic pain, weakness, or loss of sensation. In severe cases, the injury could impair critical bodily functions, including bladder or bowel control. The risk of infection is high, as deep stab wounds can introduce bacteria into tissues or even the spinal canal. Large blood vessels near the spine, such as the aorta, can also be affected. If punctured, these vessels may cause life-threatening internal bleeding.
