NY-based cardiologist shares 10 simple tips that can add ten years to your life
The key to longevity doesn’t require extraordinary efforts or over-the-tops fads. The real secret lies in the everyday simple habits and mindful choices that build long-term health. Shedding light on this very concept, board-certified senior cardiologist Dr. Evan Levine, shared the 10 habits that can help add ten fulfilling years to your life. Dr Levine has been practicing since the age of 29 and has been vocal on debunking health myths. Dr. Levine adds these ten habits can be started even at the age of 30.
1. Never smoke or be around anyone who smokes
Dr. Levine notes that smoking releases a number of carcinogens, and even increases the risk of stroke, heart attacks, vascular disease, aortic aneurysms and high blood pressure.
2. No alcohol or minimal consumption
Dr. Levine says it is ideal to not consume alcohol at all. Optionally, he advises, sticking to less than a few drinks a week.
3. “Don’t open the door for fast food”
Dr. Levine recommends staying completely away from fast foods. He says fast food adds toxic calories that have already poisoned millions of people.
4. Limit drugs and medication to lowest possible
He recommends limiting drugs and medicine doses to the lowest possible. He also recommends limiting ADHD meds to lowest possible doses.
5. Include any exercise in everyday practice
Physical activity is an essential part of healthy living. He says to practice any exercise regularly. For walking he recommends practicing 7 thousand steps a day.

6. Keep blood pressure in check
Managing healthy blood pressure is a powerful way to protect the heart and overall health. Dr. says keep blood pressure in the range of 120 to 80.
7. Check your cholesterol levelsDr. Levine advises keeping cholesterol levels in track. He recommends statins for lowering LDL above 90, or simply making lifestyle changes with diet and exercise.
8. Say no to sodas or toxic sugary drinks
Sugary drinks like sodas have been linked to an increased risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Dr. Levine recommends limiting consumption of such beverages.
9. Reduce stress
Chronic stress messes with the mind as well the body. With reducing stress, Dr. Levine adds to avoid factors that cause it. He says “build your foundation of friends.”
10. Adapt a healthy sleeping habitPrioritizing quality sleep is crucial for heart health, brain function, and overall longevity. Always maintain sleep hygiene and be consistent.
The tips Dr. Levine gave is not something extraordinary that requires extra effort. In fact, these are the simplest things that build the foundation for health. The problem lies in the fact that we’ve made ourselves so used to unhealthy habits that adapting them feels like a big task.
