Here’s how much farting is considered normal

The Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial has been very eventful.

Not only is social media torn between which celebrity is right and who is wrong, but the internet is also brimming with memes and trolls.

The most recent video that has caught people's attention again is Depp's reaction to a woman farting in court. Well, basically the actor gave no reaction at all! But why should he, farting is just the body's way of releasing tension in the gut.

Why is farting healthy?

Although farting is embarrassing for most people and some may find it extremely hilarious, it is normal and is actually considered healthy.

A fart, also known as gas or flatulence, occurs when there is a build up of gasses in the small intestine from digestion and respiration. Also, when you eat, chew or swallow food, you swallow air too, which builds up in your digestive system. While some of the air is absorbed, the excess is released either in the form of a burp or a fart.

That said, farting is healthy, since it allows your body to release excess gas that may otherwise cause discomfort and sometimes pain.

How much farting is normal?

On average, a person passes gas 14 to 23 times a day. Depending on what you eat and the lifestyle you follow, you may produce more or less farts.

Most farts are odorless and raise no alarms. However, given certain factors, they may be smellier and more loud.

Having said that, it is normal to fart up to 25 times a day. However, more than that is said to be excessive farting. If you're passing more gas than usual, it could be accompanied with symptoms such as burping, bloating and pain and discomfort in the stomach.

When should you see a doctor?

Passing extra gas should not be of any concern. However, if you feel you're abnormally farting or if you experience pain and discomfort along with bloating and burping, contact your physician.

Explain your symptoms to your doctor and get your tests done immediately, so you can identify the source.

All you need to know about the benefits of farting
