Girls on Instagram are trying ‘Barbie Feet’. Know why it is disturbing!
Love the way the barbies' legs are so toned and feet always pointing down like they would if you were wearing high heels? Most of us would say yes. However, it is one thing to love them and another to identify with them. After thigh gaps and toblerone tunnels, Instagram is swooning over #barbiefeet.
Many Instagram influencers are posting photos in which they have stretched their feet and standing on the balls of their feet, if not the tips of their toes, just like barbies’ permanent high-heel feet. The position of the feet is such that that they are wearing invisible heels.
The trend isn't as much damaging to one's body as it is to one's mind. Experts are concerned about the body image issues this trend causes in young women. Such beauty standards are unrealistic but girls still try to conform to them.
“Social media crazes like the Toblerone Tunnel tend to go viral pretty quickly and can have a damaging effect on young women’s body image and self-esteem. We’ve seen it before with the thigh gap trend, which saw many young girls try to conform to a beauty standard that’s not only unobtainable for the majority of them, but also can encourage them to use unhealthy methods to achieve it,” Liam Preston, head of the ‘Be Real Campaign’ for body positivity, told a website.
It is sad that we find it so hard to celebrate different body shapes and sizes, worry experts. Such social media crazes are not meant to be followed but they sadly gain a lot of popularity.
