When the last was time you grinded the turmeric with a traditional masala grinder or even did calculations without the help of our mobile phone’s calculator? It will not be surprising to learn – not some time soon. Well, gone are the days when people had the time to do things themselves without using DIY manuals or gadgets is what people say. Starting from the kitchen to the office, machines and gadgets seem to have invaded human lives in a way that life certainly seems impossible without them.
But while dependence on these machines that we use in our day-to-day lives is quite acceptable, even doctors are of the view that excessive dependence upon gadgets is not just harmful for the
physical health of a person but also leads to psychological beliefs and thought process of people. Says psychological expert, Dr Ashish Mitra, “In the present times when life is moving so fast, of course we need certain gadgets like mobile phones, computers, refrigerators, TVs, etc to make life simpler and satisfying for us. But often, excessive dependence on gadgets like computers makes people unsure of their own capabilities. Gadgets should be used to make life simpler and not be allowed to complicate lives more than it already is by causing addiction to them.”Jayanta Saha, a science professor agrees saying, “Excessive use of gadgets can not only affect the physical health of a person by accelerating stress levels, and it can also lead to gradual erosion of self-belief which can prove to be harmful in the long run.”Too much of anything isn’t healthy we agree too.
