Meet, Bernando LaPallo who lived till 114

People who live longer and disease free have several life lessons to teach. From living a stress free life to adopting healthy eating practices, people who live beyond 100 years certainly realise that discipline is the key to longevity.

Bernando LaPallo lived beyond 100 years and had said that obedience and moderation in everything helped him live long.

Let's learn about the healthy lifestyle habits the 1901 born Brazil native followed to live long.

He used to rub olive oil on his body

LaPallo used to rub olive oil on his body regularly during morning hours.

Rubbing olive oil on the body offers numerous health benefits. It deeply moisturizes the skin, preventing dryness and irritation. Rich in antioxidants and vitamin E, it helps protect against premature aging and enhances skin elasticity. Its anti-inflammatory properties soothe skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Olive oil also improves blood circulation, promoting a natural glow. Massaging with warm olive oil relaxes muscles and reduces stress. Additionally, it can help fade scars and stretch marks over time. Regular application nourishes the skin, making it soft, supple, and healthy. It’s best used after a shower for maximum absorption and hydration.

He used to wake up at 3.30 or 4 in the morning

An important part of LaPallo's lifestyle was waking up early. He used to wake up at dawn and take a shower.

Waking up at 3:30 AM offers several health benefits, especially for mental clarity and productivity. It aligns with the Brahma Muhurta, an ideal time for meditation and self-reflection, enhancing mental peace and focus. Early rising promotes better discipline, improves sleep quality, and boosts energy levels throughout the day. It allows for quiet, distraction-free mornings, fostering creativity and planning. Exercising early enhances metabolism and supports weight management. Exposure to early morning fresh air improves lung health and boosts mood. Additionally, it helps regulate hormones and reduces stress, leading to better overall physical and emotional well-being when paired with a healthy routine.

Crossword puzzles helped him relax

LaPallo knew that stress is a silent killer. He always practiced stress killing habits like solving crossword puzzles every day to keep his cognitive health in check.

"Stress is a killer, my daddy told me that. It's important to take time to relax and exercise your brain, such as by doing crossword puzzles," he told National Geographic, the Business Insider reported.

Solving crossword puzzles is a great way to boost brain health. It enhances memory, cognitive function, and problem-solving skills, keeping the mind sharp. Engaging in crosswords regularly helps delay age-related mental decline and may lower the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s. It also improves vocabulary and concentration, providing mental stimulation. Additionally, solving puzzles reduces stress and promotes a sense of achievement, making it an enjoyable and beneficial brain exercise.

He believed in you are what you eat

LaPallo believed in healthy eating. He used to eat plenty of fish, seasonal and fresh vegetables.

Foods like garlic, honey, cinnamon, chocolate and olive oil were a part of his daily diet. The antioxidants and immunity boosting properties of these foods helped him live longer.

He never ate red meat, an advice he took from his father, though occasionally he used to eat lamb. He avoided junk foods like hot dogs and French fries.

In a nutshell

The key to a long life lies in healthy habits, mental well-being, and strong social connections. A balanced diet rich in whole foods, antioxidants, and healthy fats supports longevity. Regular exercise keeps the body strong, while quality sleep aids recovery and stress reduction. Managing stress through meditation, hobbies, or mindfulness improves overall health. Positive relationships with family and friends enhance emotional well-being. Avoiding smoking, excessive alcohol, and processed foods reduces health risks. Lifelong learning and mental stimulation keep the brain sharp. Lastly, gratitude, optimism, and a purpose-driven life contribute to happiness and a longer, healthier life.
