Subrata Roy succumbs due to cardiorespiratory arrest

Subrata Roy, the founder of Sahara India Pariwar, passed away on November 14 after battling prolonged illnesses. He was 75 when he breathed his last. Mourning his loss and explaining the cause of his demise, the Sahara group said in a statement, "Saharasri ji an inspirational leader and visionary, passed away on 141h November 2023 at 10.30 pm due to cardiorespiratory arrest following an extended battle with complications arising from metastatic malignancy, hypertension, and diabetes. He was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital & Medical Research Institute (KDAH) on 12th November 2023, following a decline in health."

Having multiple conditions can increase the risk of death. Here are more details about the health conditions he battled with.
2/5

What happens in a cardiorespiratory arrest

A cardiorespiratory arrest is the sudden loss of breathing, heart function, and consciousness. "The condition is typically caused by issues with the electrical system of the heart that often interfere with the normal rhythm of the heart. When the heart stops beating efficiently, the result is a lack of oxygenated blood flowing through the body which is often fatal. Blood flow is the origin of oxygen to every cell of the body and when that fails, the organs and cells don’t get enough oxygen-rich blood to operate," explains AED USA on their website.

3/5

What is metastatic malignancy

Metastatic malignancy (cancer) refers to cancer that has spread beyond the point of origin to other areas of the body. Cancer cells have the ability to grow outside of the place in your body where they originated. This is called metastatic cancer, advanced cancer or Stage IV cancer. Most metastatic cancers are manageable, but not curable, according to Cleveland Clinic.

4/5

Risk associated with hypertension

Hypertension or high blood pressure happens when the pressure in your blood vessels is too high – 140/90 mmHg or higher. It is a common condition, however, it can turn fatal if not treated properly. Hypertension is the number one risk factor for death globally, affecting more than 1 billion people, according to the World Health Federation. High blood pressure accounts for about half of all heart disease and stroke-related deaths worldwide.

5/5

Risks associated with diabetes

Diabetes (high blood glucose or sugar) occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Insulin is an essential hormone that helps your body turn food into energy and controls your blood sugar levels. When diabetes is well managed, patients can live long and healthy lives. However, untreated diabetes can lead to complications that can put your health and life at risk.
