Can COVID cause erectile dysfunction in men?

Comorbidities related to COVID-19 have become a common phenomenon during the second wave of the coronavirus. From black fungus, white fungus, happy hypoxia to pneumonia, COVID-19 is affecting various organs of our body and making us prone to various diseases. One of the recent studies found that COVID-19 can cause erectile dysfunction and affect fertility.

The study

The study was conducted on Italian men and it was found that COVID-19 damages the cardiovascular system, leading to narrowed blood vessels, which in turn can affect a man's erection. The blood supply to the penis can become blocked or narrowed as a result of the new vascular condition caused by the virus.

The results of the study found that endothelial cell dysfunction from COVID-19 can lead to erectile dysfunction in men.

So far, many cases of erectile dysfunction have been reported in India. However, no India specific study has been done on the topic, which can provide us with some conclusive results.

The study also found that COVID-19 infection is alone not responsible for causing erectile dysfunction in men. In several cases, it is happening due to pandemic related stress, anxiety, feeling of loneliness and financial struggles. Thus, addressing the mental health issues is necessary to determine the factors that affect erectile dysfunction.

Erectile dysfunction is higher in men who have comorbidities like hypertension and diabetes.

3/3

Treating erectile dysfunctioning
