Cancer pain comes in several intensities

Many people experience pain during cancer. The pain associated with cancer does not have a single definition or can not be defined in a particular manner as the intensity and degree of the pain varies from individual to individual and from the location and the nature of the cancerous growth. In this article, we will explore the different pain associated with cancer so that it helps readers to understand the pain and get medical help at the earliest. One should know that the conclusion around the pain should be medically tested and approved.

The pain associated with the nerve is called the neuropathic pain. This is triggered when there is a pressure and/ or damage to the nerves. This pain feels like burning or tingling sensation. Many people also feel like something crawling underneath their skin.

This is a common type of pain seen in patients with cancer. This is more prominently seen in those patients in whom the cancer has spread to the bone. This pain feels like a throbbing ache.

Phantom pain

Phantom pain results from the surgery. American Cancer Society defines it as a longer-lasting effect of surgery, beyond the usual surgical pain. If you’ve had an arm, leg, or even a breast removed, you may still feel pain or other unusual or unpleasant feelings that seem to be coming from the absent (phantom) body part. Doctors are not sure why this happens, but phantom pain is real; it’s not “all in your head.”

Why you should inform your doctor about the pain?

Many patients hesitate to open up on the pain. This is partly because they don't want to bother the doctor and partly because they don't want to bring up another problem before others. Many patients do not even understand the pain. It is very important to inform the doctor about the pain so that medicines and drugs can be given to null their effect. There are several pain relievers that can ease the pain. But do not self prescribe such medicines and wait for the doctor to recommend.
