Here's what your feet are telling you

Your feet can tell you about underlying health-related issues before symptoms appear anywhere else. Therefore, you must not ignore any signs or symptoms in your feet, as they may indicate a warning sign to take better care of your health. If you experience any of the symptoms given below, it is an indication to take proactive steps and take care of your health:

2/7

1. Cold Feet

Cold feet are a common occurrence, especially for people who live in cooler climates. While climate plays a role, cold feet could also indicate an underlying health issue. It may signal conditions such as thyroid dysfunction, diabetes, hormonal imbalances, or circulatory problems. In some cases, stress may also contribute to reduced blood flow, leading to cold feet.

3/7

2. Swollen feet

According to Dr Achintya Sharma, Senior Consultant, Vascular & Endovascular Surgery - Max Super Specialty Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, “Many people experience swollen feet occasionally, which may cause discomfort. Most of the time, there's nothing to worry about. However, persistent swollen feet may indicate poor circulation, heart disease, kidney problems, or even issues related to the lymphatic system.”

4/7

3. Discoloration of feet

Change in color of feet can indicate circulation problems. This indicates early signs of ischemic (restricted blood flow) or gangrenous condition.

5/7

4. Numbness or tingling

Feeling of numbness or tingling in the feet can be due to vitamin b12 deficiency, or may be due to nerve-related issue, and can indicate early signs of diabetes mellitus, peripheral arterial disease (PAD), or other neurological issues.

6/7

5. Cracked feet

Dry or cracked feet can be early indication of omega fatty acids and zinc deficiency in body.

7/7

6. Colored nails

Discoloration of nails or any change in toenail texture can be a health concern and indicate conditions like fungal infections, mineral deficiency, psoriasis, anemia, or even melanoma. If the symptoms persist, it is important to consult a healthcare professional for accurate diagnosis.
