5 reasons you should not take your phone to the loo

Most of us (unconsciously) take our phones to the loo - thinking that while we freshen up, we will catch up on the news, reply to messages, check emails, or even play a game or two. A lot of us also term loo time as 'me-time', away from distractions like kids, spouses, chores etc. However, taking your phone to the loo, as convenient as that might sound, is doing more harm than good. Here's how.

2/6

Your phone can pick up harmful germs

Bathrooms are full of germs and bacteria. When you take your phone to the toilet, it can easily pick up these germs. And unlike the bathroom, where you wash your hands often, you don't do so after you touch your phone! Studies have shown that phones can carry more bacteria than a toilet seat! These germs can stay on your phone and spread to your hands, face, and other surfaces you touch later. This increases the risk of infections and illnesses.

3/6

It can lead to accidents

Using your phone in the bathroom can sometimes lead to accidental slips. You might drop your phone into the toilet or sink, causing damage or loss of important data. Not only that, you might get water on your phone as well, that in turn, can damage its screen. You might even trip over your phone, and hurt yourself as well.

4/6

Increases your screen time

Taking your phone to the loo encourages longer screen time. What should be a quick bathroom break can turn into 10 or 15 minutes of scrolling through social media or watching videos, that can make you lose track of time. This habit can affect your productivity and even disturb your daily routine. It also keeps you glued to your phone, making it harder to take breaks from screens.

5/6

Impacts your bathroom habits

Spending too much time on the toilet with your phone can cause health problems. Sitting for long periods puts pressure on the veins in your lower body, which can lead to issues like hemorrhoids. Also, focusing on your phone distracts you from listening to your body’s natural signals, which can affect digestion and bowel movements.

6/6

It can stress you out!

The bathroom is a place to relax and take a break. But when you bring your phone, it often means you are still connected to work, social media, or messages. This constant connection can increase stress instead of helping you unwind. Taking a break from your phone, even for a few minutes, can help your mind relax and reduce anxiety.
