From mountaineering and scuba diving to learning unconventional forms of exercises, here’s what gets these actors excited
For Karan Tacker, scuba diving recharges him like nothing can. The actor, who is now a certified scuba diver, says, “I was aquaphobic and to get over my fear of water, tried scuba diving in Oman. Surprisingly, I felt comfortable in deep water and now, I’m almost addicted to it. Recently, I did a course in Phi Phi Islands and I’m now a certified diver. I plan my vacation such that I can enjoy this sport.” Like Karan, there are other TV actors who have found their calling in certain adrenaline-pumping activities.
For Shefali Jariwala and Parag Tyagi, it’s Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics and music. The couple says this ‘game’ gives them a rush. Shefali says, “I was watching a film, in which the lead pair practices a form of martial arts that I thought was intense and sexy. On researching, I found out it was capoeira. We try and practice it at least thrice a week. This not only keeps us on our toes but helps us spend quality time with each other.”
If not a dancer-actor, Raghav Juyal tells us he would have become a trekking guide. He says, “I grew up in the mountains in Uttarakhand; I feel comfortable up there than on land. I’ve done some interesting treks, including Har Ki Dun and Cherapunjee. And I’m now on the Kunjapuri Temple trail.”
Lifting weights and pumping iron is not something that Abhishek Duhan looks forward to. To experience thrill akin to ‘driving a car full throttle without a functional brake’, he has taken up parkour. “It involves a lot of cross lunges, free landing and hanging from a ledge among others. The best thing about parkour is that it can be practised anywhere — in a park or a building. The chances of injury are high and I’ve bruised myself several times. But practising it gives me an adrenaline rush,” he says.
