Depending on how often you workout, your fitness gear can become a breeding ground for germs if you don’t pay enough attention.

Here’s what you need to do...

- Your sports bras need to be replaced when they don’t give you the lift that they used to in the past. It is preferable to hand-wash them because they might lose their elasticity in the washing machine. Use a fabric softener as well and don’t forget to use a disinfectant.

- The same goes for your tees and trackpants, a disinfectant will help remove all the bacteria and germs that may accumulate because of sweat. Keep at least four pairs so that you can alternate using them.

- Use a hard toothbrush to remove dirt from the sides and soles of your running shoes. Replace the soles if they are worn out and check if the laces are functioning properly. Let your shoes air out by keeping them on your balcony overnight, this will also remove any foul odours.

- Replace your socks every couple of years and opt for moisture locking ones so that they can fight sweat. It is best to clean socks in hot water with a strong detergent to remove all stains and germs. You don’t want a foot infection thanks to wearing dirty socks!

- Empty your gym back once a week, you’ll be amazed at the things that you tend to collect in it. Wash it once a month and use wet wipes every other day to keep it clean.

- Use a bottle brush to clean your gym bottle every three days. Don’t forget to clean the mouth of the bottle with some disinfectant to get rid of germs.
