Avoid eating these nutrients in excess

Healthy eating means choosing the right nutrition and also the right amount of nutrition. Often, it is also associated with how long you live. Longevity of life has a lot to do with not only the kind of food you eat, but also the amount you intake. Wholesome foods may amp up your healthy lifestyle, but if you stray away from a balanced diet, it can take a massive toll on your physical and mental well-being. That said, while nutrition may be extremely crucial for your health, excess consumption of certain nutrients or overnutrition may in fact become a source of concern for many.

So if you're someone who is all about bulking up on good nutrition, here are some nutrients you should not have in excess or must limit if you want to curb chronic illnesses.

2/6

Trans and saturated fat

Trans fat is one of the most unhealthy types of dietary fat, that not only increases bad cholesterol, but also lowers good cholesterol. Excess of trans fat may make you more prone to heart diseases, one of leading, most fatalistic illnesses in adults, according to the American Heart Association. It can also increase your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

Similarly, saturated fats are also unhealthy. It helps cholesterol to build up in the arteries, raising "bad" cholesterol levels. This again increases the risk of heart diseases and stroke.

3/6

Sodium

As necessary as sodium has become, it can be as damaging to your health. As per experts, excess sodium intake can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. In addition, it can also weaken your bones, given that it can cause calcium losses. Since packaged foods contain high amounts of sodium content, it can really take a toll on your health, as you age.

4/6

Sugar

Sugary foods are surely delicious. However, it is extremely unhealthy and dangerous for your health. The American Heart Association (AHA) claims that sugary drinks contain about 47% of added sugar, which is highly alarming. Excess sugar intake can lead to higher blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, chronic inflammation, and fatty liver disease, all of which increase the risk of heart diseases and strokes.

5/6

Nitrates

Although nitrates are chemical compounds, they're also considered a type of nutrient. Nitrate-containing foods are often linked to harmful health effects including heart palpitations, nausea, headaches, and abdominal cramps. Additionally, research has also indicated that eating foods high in nitrate may also increase the risk of cancer.

6/6

Iron

Excess iron consumption can be disadvantageous for your body too. Overeating of iron-rich foods can lead to build up of iron in tissues and organs. The most common disorder that can occur is hereditary hemochromatosis, which when left untreated increases the risk of arthritis, liver problems, diabetes, heart failure and cancer.
