If you are guilty of bingeing the past few days, you aren’t alone — Diwali is the perfect time to indulge but the bloating after the festivities are over, the sluggish uncomfortable feeling, is really something no one wants. Here are a few tips to help you beat it…
Eat right Swap all kinds of refined, salt-laden cuisine, fried and sweet foods for a few days with a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables like parsley, leafy greens, asparagus, melons, citrus fruits etc.
Avoid salt-laden foods Excess of salt can cause water retention and bloating, so, instead of salt use spices like pepper or chilly to season your food. Add fresh herbs like basil, celery, oregano etc., to add flavour and taste to dishes. Include complex carbs like whole grains in your diet rather than the starchy, sugary ones. u
Detoxify Opt for detoxification — have only cold pressed vegetable juices for a day or two. Detoxifying does not mean starving, so you must have the required quantities of raw juices through the day. Experts say that if you give your system a rest, it will respond with health and vitality.
Catch up on sleep Follow your circadian rhythms. A good night’s sleep is essential — no late nights / waking up late — to help you get back in form.
Have probiotics Have yoghurt, miso soup, micro algae and other foods with probiotics. Probiotics help digestion by increasing the gut enzymes.
Avoid caffeine Caffeinated drinks can worsen bloating. Sip on unsweetened lemon water and green tea instead.
Keep yourself hydrated Water can purge your system of toxins and is essential for the proper functioning of your body. Drinking at least three to four litres of water can help combat bloating.
