Top 5 tips to drink alcohol and still avoid weight gain
- Instead of cocktails, go for wine: It is said that wine can keep our blood vessels flexible by boosting our HDL (good) cholesterol. Red wine in particular, is known to have health benefits because it is full of Resveratrol - an ingredient that aids in reducing "bad" cholesterol levels and prevents blood clots. - Be aware of what you eat. This means that you should be able to read your body signals as to when you are full. Mindless eating will just add to your daily calorie intake. Don’t drink on an empty stomach, as it tends to speed up intoxification. Eat a healthy meal or snack before you start drinking in order to avoid binge drinking.
- Drink plenty of water in between drinks so that you feel fuller. This will keep excess drinking at bay by stopping the craving to jump to the next glass every few minutes. Additionally, this will also keep you away from hangovers the next day.
- Avoid high calorie drinks. Avoid drinks that include mixers like sweet and sour mix. Juice or club soda will have more calories compared to drinks which are not mixed.
- The next morning: Make it a point to hydrate yourself well the next day too so that all the toxins are flushed out. Go for a small walk and take a warm shower to calm your nerves. Get enough sleep so that you are good enough to face another day!
