The fast metabolism diet

The name may sound new but the diet was first published by Haylie Pomroy in the year 2013. The diet has gained popularity in the recent past and has reportedly helped people lose weight.

2/9

What is exactly the diet?

As the name suggests, the diet works on boosting your metabolism, which ultimately helps you burn more calories and thus lose weight. The diet plan spans a period of 28 days and cycles through three multi-day phases each week. It revs up your metabolism by macronutrient cycling (rotating the periods of high-protein, high-carb and high-fat eating every week).

3/9

The restrictions

The diet restricts certain foods including corn, soy, dairy. caffeine, alcohol, refined sugar, fruit juice, dried fruit, wheat and nitrates for all 28 days.

Diet in detail

For those following fast-metabolic diet, they are supposed to eat five times a day, maintaining a gap of three to four hours between two meals. Eating within 30 minutes after completing a walk is also important.

After measuring your weight in pounds, you have to make sure your water intake is half your bodyweight in ounces. For example, someone weighs 100 pounds, they need to drink 50 ounces of water in a day.

Most importantly each week is divided into three phases that focus on different macronutrients.

The portion size of the foods depends on the amount of weight one needs to lose.

A rough look of how each phase in each week looks like:

5/9

Phase 1 (day 1 & 2): High-carb, moderate protein and no fat

The phase promises to relieve stress by making one eat foods that have a high glycemic index and falls under the complex carbs category. Your diet should include moderate protein and no fats in this phase.

As your body is getting lots of energy from the high-glycemic carbs, you can do cardio exercises two days a week.

6/9

Phase 2 ( day 3 & 4): Low carb, high protein and low fat

The second phase focuses on unlocking the stored fat by adding more protein and cutting carbs from your diet. The high protein diet helps to improve body’s ability to burn more fat.

During this phase, you can do one day of strength training and can lift heavy weights but with less number of repetitions.

7/9

Phase 3 (day 5 to 7): Moderate carb, moderate protein and high fat

By reintroducing healthy fats, the diet claims to unleash the burn. The fats consumed boosts one’s metabolism.

One should practice workout that helps them relive stress like yoga and meditation can be of great help. Getting massage would serve as a cherry on the top of the cake.

8/9

Fast metabolism diet and weight loss

Probably yes. Eliminating so many foods and eating specific healthy foods for such a long time will create a calorie deficit, which ultimately is the base for losing weight. Though the diet claims that people can lose up to 20 pounds in 28 days but we all know that weight lost gradually and steadily is healthier than rapid weight loss.

9/9

Verdict

No harms have yet been reported by people who have followed the diet so if you are on a weight loss plan and want to try something, this diet may be the answer.
