Man or dog? What you see first reveals your true personality

Ready for a bizarre optical illusion?

Puzzles and optical illusions continue to surprise us, often leading to a buzz on social media platforms. One such perfectly timed photo taken from a unique angle has shocked people on how they see what is not there, and what is actually there – is only realised later.

How about you? What do you see first?

In this picture of snow-covered woods - yes that is not the point of debate - many people see a man in black outfit, walking perhaps with a backpack or a fluffy sweater. On the other hand, some people see no man, but an adorable dog walking towards the camera.

Divided social media

The picture has divided people over social media, some claiming very confidently that it’s a man, while others arguing it’s a simple dog picture. Here are some fun reactions and responses:

“It’s a guy in a sick jacket and hat running into the woods. I can tell by the gait that it’s a person,” one person insisted.

One user, who spotted the dog immediately, wrote: “Why can’t I see the man? I only see the dog.”

A social media user with switching perspectives wrote, “I had to stare at it before I could see it."

So what is it actually?

Time to reveal what this finally is - drumroll please - it’s the picture of a black poodle running towards the camera.

For those who saw the man, the dog’s furry tail appears like the back of a man’s head. And the dog’s face is mistaken for a bag on his back or a part of his “fluffy” winter clothes.

Hundreds of viewers found themselves caught in the illusion, as their initial take was not exactly what the real thing was. It was only after knowing that it is a dog, did their perspective switch to be able to decipher it.

What your perception reveals about you

Lee Chambers, an Environmental Psychologist and Wellbeing Consultant, told The Sun that what you saw first can tell a lot about your personality in general, and your mood while seeing the optical illusion, in particular.

"Where your eyes first focus on the picture certainly plays a part in the perception of your image, but your current psychological state can also play a role in whether you see a dog approaching or a human escaping," he said. Find out what your answer says about you:

5/6

If you saw the man first

You are more likely to see the man escaping if you are currently anxious. Your mind is more likely to see this optical illusion from a “threatening viewpoint”.

As for your personality, if it is difficult for you to trust others easily, you will see the man escaping. This will also be more likely if you are more pessimistic in nature.

6/6

If you saw the dog first

You are more likely to get the correct answer and spot the dog, if you are in a calm and/or confident state of mind. Your mental clarity might allow you to easily decipher the features of the dog's face moving towards you.

Coming to your personality, optimistic individuals who are more open and welcoming to surprises and new experiences, are more likely to see the dog coming towards the camera.

The front right leg of the dog is bent back. If anyone assumed that itvwas the man’s left leg, that is impossible because a human leg can never be bent forward at the knee.So its definitely a dog.
