Tom Holland

Tom Holland announced through a video that he is taking a break from social media as it was turning out to be detrimental for his mental health.

“I have taken a break from social media for my mental health, because I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming,” he said in a video posted to Instagram in August 2022. “I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online. And ultimately, it’s very detrimental to my mental state.”

Justin Bieber

In August 2016, Justin Bieber quit Instagram, which is believed to have happened after a row with his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez.

After his fans reacted badly to seeing his pictures with then alleged girlfriend Sofia Richie, Bieber said, “I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate this is getting out of hand, if you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like.” Bieber was back on instagram after 6 months.

Selena Gomez

In February this year, after surpassing Kylie Jenner to become the most followed person on Instagram, Selena Gomez decided to step away from social media for the sake of her mental health.

Gomez had previously shared in an interview with Vanity Fair that she "would constantly be crying" after reading "paragraphs that are so specific and mean" on social media against her. "I constantly had anxiety,” she said.

Karan Johar

In October 2022, filmmaker Karan Johar decided to quit Twitter. In his farewell tweet, he wrote, “Making space for more positive energies only and this is step one towards that. Goodbye Twitter!”

During the last season of his chat show 'Koffee With Karan', the director had spoken at length about facing trolling and social media hate. He also shared that he had faced anxiety issues a few years ago and had to be on medication.

Sonakshi Sinha

In June 2020, Sonakshi deactivated her Twitter account to protect her peace of mind. Announcing her exit from the social media platform, she tweeted, "The first step to protecting your sanity is to stay away from negativity. And no where more of that than twitter these days! Chalo, I'm off - deactivating my account. Bye guys, peace out."

As per reports, it is believed this deactivation happened due to the nepotism debate that sparked on Twitter following the sudden demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Saqib Saleem

Around the same time as Sonakshi Sinha, '83' actor Saqib also quit Twitter to get away from all the bullies and hate.

A part of his farewell tweet read, “When we met for the first time, you were lovely. A great platform to express feelings, gather knowledge and understand many different points of view. But, of late you seem to have gotten lost in all the hate everyone is so ready to throw at each other, a place full of bullies, a place where abusing people is a normal code of conduct.”
