World Food Safety Day 2023: Meaning, theme, and its significance

It is a day celebrated across the world that aims to promote the significance of preparing, storing, and delivering food with utmost safety and ensuring adequate nutrition is provided to every individual. As per experts, World Food Safety Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 through a resolution. It was first proposed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and was later supported by a total of 44 countries, and finally the official date was announced as June 7th every year. (Image: istock)

This year's theme is "Food standards save lives". As per WHO, while many people don't read the labels on food products, the motive is to raise awareness and encourage people to adhere to the set standards and also help customers to make informed decisions. (Image: istock)

The significance of the day is to make people aware of adopting food safety practices that will help us prevent food-borne illnesses. Every year, the day celebrates a theme dedicated to the day and talks in-depth about it.
