Winter Special: How to make Spinach Rice for dinner

Easy Spinach Rice Recipe


If you are also bored of regular steamed rice or pulao, then try this seasonal dish called Spinach Rice. Made with puree of tender spinach leaves and cooked rice, it is a one-pot meal that goes well with pickle and curd. Scroll down to read the recipe.

Ingredients


1 cup basmati rice, 1 cup spinach puree, 1 onion, 1–2 green chilies, 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, 1/2 tsp mustard seeds, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp red chili powder, 1–2 tbsp oil, salt to taste, 2 cups water, and some coriander leaves

Step 1


First of all, wash the rice and soak in water for 20–30 minutes.

Cook it in 2 cups of water for 2 whistles and let it cool down.

Now, heat oil or ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Let them splutter.

Step 4


Add chopped onions and green chilies and saute for 2 minutes and also add ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1–2 minutes.

Add spinach puree, turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 2–3 minutes until raw smell disappears.

Add the cooked rice and cover and cook for 5-7 minutes.

Serve hot with pickle and curd on the side.
