There’s no denying that mangoes are the most loved fruit and no matter how you eat them the taste always pleases the palate, but do you know why you should never eat mangoes without soaking in water? Here’s what experts reveal about the traditional ritual of soaking mangoes before eating and why it is a must!

Why should you soak mangoes before eating?

Since ages we have seen our elders rinsing and soaking mangoes right before eating and it is not just to remove chemicals, dirt and dust, but also has a major impact on the taste and quality of the fruit. This age-old practice is also backed by science, here’s all you need to know about it.

3/5

Reduces the heat

Mangoes may increase the temperature of the body and during the summer season, generation of heat in the body may impact the digestive system and gut health. This is due to the process of thermogenesis. Thus, soaking mangoes in water helps in reducing the thermogenic property of the fruit.

4/5

Removes chemicals

Insecticides and chemicals are often used to keep the mangoes and the tree safe from insects, weeds or crawlers, but these chemicals have a long term effect on the overall health and wellbeing. This is because pesticides and insecticides may cause skin irritation, nausea, respiratory tract irritation, allergies, cancer and headache etc.

5/5

Washes out sticky discharge

Soaking and washing mangoes removes the stickiness on the surface. Dipping mangoes in water also helps remove the milky sap on its stem, which contains the phytic acid.
