Ek amle ka dose, har roz!

Winter is here and market is filled with healthy greens and dishes that you need to include in your daily diet. Recently, celebrity nutritionist and author Rujuta Diwekar took it to her social media, where she talked about one of the seasonal produces that is full of health benefits. This post was related to her ‘12-week fitness project 2020’, where she mentioned ‘Ek amle ka dose, har roz’. Yes, you got it right, she talked about our very own ‘Amla’ (gooseberry). In her post she mentioned, “Amla as an indigenous fruit has a long tradition of being used as a therapeutic fruit across all regions of India. Indian homes and our dadis, nanis, appas, ammas have always known about the benefits of amla.” So, if you are thinking about enriching your diet with something seasonal and healthy, amla can be the easiest solution. Here’s why you need to have it in winters.

Why is it good for you?

On her social media page, Rujuta mentioned about the benefits of amla which says that regular intake of amla helps in preventing cold, coughs and flus and even helps recover from such illnesses. It also helps you burn fat and sport a slimmer waist and improves insulin sensitivity and helps regulate blood sugars. She has also mentioned that amla regulates production of cholesterol and has cardio-protective abilities. It is almost mentioned in her Facebook post that it provides 20 times the vitamin C of orange. It works as a co-factor for iron assimilation and if you are low on Hb, have amla. . It is also useful for those who have a tough time waking up, are around puberty, have bad PMS or endometriosis. You will be surprised to know that amla also helps improve eye sight, oral health and heals bruises faster.

How to use amla?

In her post she mentioned that amla can be used as
1. A whole fruit by itself, with kala namak
2. Sherbets, fresh and homemade
3. Moravla (murabba) or amla jams that are made at home and stored literally for ages (the older the better). Have it with a meal.

5. Chyawanprash – main ingredient is amla. Can have with milk, water or just like that.
6. Amla supari - dried and salted amla used as a mouth freshener and as a digestive and antacid.

How to make amla chutney?
