International Tea Day: What’s better green tea or white tea?

The love of tea is perfectly defined in this quote! On the occasion of International Tea day, it is next to impossible to begin the day without a hot cup of tea. Ask any tea lover, and they would agree that tea is not just another beverage, rather it is an emotion, which kicks every pain out and makes life worth living! No matter, wherever you go, you will find tea around you, but yes there can be a difference in the variant of tea, but the love for this enchanting blend is universal.
Much like our emotions about that piping hot cup of tea, the taste preference of every tea lover is different! Someone would say that masala chai is the best whereas the other person would prefer a mild flavourful chamomile tea or maybe something as healthy as green tea or white tea. In fact, there are so many varieties that if you are someone willing to experiment with your palate preference of tea, then we are sure, you will be spoilt for choices!
Off late, with a wave of health consciousness engulfing the millennial minds, there has been a fad around healthy teas and the most popular among the galore of teas is green tea and white, but the question arises that what’s better? Read on to find out more about these two variants.
What makes green tea and white tea different?
Both the tea variants originate from the same plant known as the Camellia sinensis, what makes white tea different from green tea is the time of harvesting, white tea is picked during the onset of spring and are usually the young leaves that are hand-picked carefully. In fact, this is what makes it a much more expensive variant as compared to green tea. However, green tea has a bitter taste and requires more refining. The processing of both variants are very different as green tea needs more processing.
As we mentioned earlier, white tea is picked very carefully and is processed with a lot of care by steaming it followed by drying and then rolling it. Whereas green tea is fermented partially. Due to the slight fermentation of both these tea variants, the nutritional properties remain intact and this is what makes both these variants a dose of good health.
According to a few studies, it was found that white tea has more antioxidants as compared to green tea, as it less processed. Not only are both of these variants are good for heart health, great for reducing the risk of obesity, cancer and other lifestyle diseases, when consumed daily.
Due to the low-caffeine content of green tea, it helps in a healthy weight management and is great for a healthy and youthful skin. Well, white tea has much more health benefits as compared to green tea.
What’s more, the caffeine content in white tea is less than green tea. As per experts, white tea has around 15g caffeine, while green tea has around 20g caffeine. This reflects in the taste as well, where white tea is smooth and gentle, green tea has a slightly bitter taste.
In a nutshell, it can be concluded that both white tea and green tea are equally good for health, but white has much more antioxidants in comparison to green.
