​What is heavy cream?

Also known as whipping cream, heavy cream is nothing but thick part of milk that rises on top due to high-fat content. It has about 35-40 percent of fat content.

What is cream cheese?

In simple words, cream cheese refers to a soft amalgamation of milk and fresh cream. It is basically a fresh cheese made with these two ingredients that have a soft and creamy consistency. It is sweet and tangy in taste and contains only 30 percent fat content.

How is heavy cream different from cream cheese?

The biggest difference between the two is fat content. On one hand heavy cream contains around 40 percent fat, whereas cream cheese contains only 30 percent or even less fat. Apart from this, their uses are also different. Heavy cream is used in ice creams, chowders, pasta sauces, to give the dish a thick consistency and creamy finish. While cream cheese is used in making crepe filling, pastry dough, brownie and even soups.

How to make heavy cream at home?

If you want to prepare heavy cream at home there are many ways that can be easily tried at home. Have a look at a few easy ways below.

Whole milk and butter

Take ⅓ cup of butter and ¾ cup of whole milk. Melt the butter and mix it with milk. Once both the ingredients are mixed well, start whisking till the mixture turns frothy in consistency. Store in a jar and use within 2 days.

Skimmed milk with cornstarch

For this method, take one cup skimmed milk and 2 tablespoon cornstarch. Whisk the ingredients together and add gelatin in lieu of cornstarch. The flavour and texture remain the same in both cases, whether you use cornstarch or gelatin.

Tofu and soy milk

Mix 450 grams of tofu with ¼ cup of soy milk together and then add ¼ cup of sugar to form a smooth and thick consistency. Keep whisking until it becomes frothy.

Condensed milk

Take 1 cup condensed milk and add 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence to it. Whisk the mixture to attain a frothy consistency. Voila! Your heavy whipped cream is ready!
