Who it is named after?

The origins of Caesar Salad are disputed, but one popular story is that it was created in the 1920s by a chef named Caesar Cardini, who ran a restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico. According to the story, Cardini was running low on ingredients one-Fourth of July weekend and threw together a salad using what he had on hand. He combined romaine lettuce, Parmesan cheese, croutons, and a dressing made from lemon juice, olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, and black pepper. Why it is named after the Roman emperor?

It's quite unclear on why this salad has been named after the Roman emperor. Some sources say that Cardini named the salad after Julius Caesar because it was a ‘regal’ dish that he thought would appeal to his restaurant's high-society clientele. Others say that it was named after Caesar's cousin, Caesar Augustus, who was known for his love of lettuce. Regardless of the reason, the name stuck, and today Caesar salad is a staple of restaurants around the world.
