Importance of turmeric in daily life

In Ayurveda, turmeric is often called liquid gold of Ayurveda because of its healing power and nutritional benefits. It is rich in curcumin, a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound, which helps protect the body from chronic inflammation, strengthens immunity, and supports overall vitality. From soothing joint pain and improving digestion to boosting skin health and enhancing brain function, turmeric works as a natural, multipurpose remedy trusted for thousands of years. And now even medical science has accepted the power of the humble spice. Jonathan Schoeff, MD, Longevity Expert & Surgeon shared a reel on Instagram, where he mentioned that turmeric, the golden spice has many benefits, which makes it a daily must-have. This piece of information talks about the reasons for which he approves turmeric as a remedy and grandma's turmeric recipes that work as medicine.

Slows down aging


He has mentioned in the video that turmeric slows down aging. And according to a study titled Curcumin as Prospective Anti-Aging Natural Compound: Focus on Brain,Curcumin, the yellow polyphenolic compound extracted from Curcuma longa species, is widely used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine to slow down aging and age-associated diseases. It is said that curcumin exhibits strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which help protect cells from oxidative stress and inflammation, two key contributors to the aging process. Increasing evidence suggests that curcumin, the active component of turmeric, can prevent ultraviolet radiation-induced skin photoaging and related inflammation. Its effects include inhibition of melanin production, wrinkle reduction, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions.

Fights cancer cells


He also mentions that turmeric can help fight cancer cells. It is mentioned in the study titled Turmeric: from spice to cure. A review of the anti-cancer, radioprotective and anti-inflammatory effects of turmeric sourced compounds, that turmeric plays a potential role as an anticancer agent, antioxidant, and radioprotector.Numerous in vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated the ability of curcumin to modulate multiple signaling pathways involved in carcinogenesis, leading to inhibition of cancer cell proliferation, induction of apoptosis, and suppression of metastasis.

It is also said that turmeric helps with liver detoxifiction. It is mentioned in the study that turmeric extract and curcumin significantly protect against liver injury by decreasing the activities of serum aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase and by improving the hepatic glutathione content, leading to a reduced level of lipid peroxidase.

Reduces insulin resistance

It also helps reduce insulin resistance. And in the study, it is mentioned that curcumin lowers blood glucose by suppressing hepatic glucose production, reducing inflammation in insulin-target tissues, and enhancing insulin signaling pathways. It activates AMP kinase and PPAR ligands, stimulates glucose uptake by upregulating GLUT4 and other glucose transporter genes, and improves pancreatic β-cell function to increase insulin secretion.

He states in the video that turmeric is proven to reduce inflammation. And as per Dr Hansa Yogendra, turmeric's active compound curcumin has anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to relieve pain and inflammation. It also releases osteoarthritis pain and naturally improves joint mobility. Turmeric also has antibacterial and antiseptic properties, making it a good disinfector.

Grandma's recipes

Haldi Doodh: All you need to do is combine hot milk, turmeric, back pepper and some ghee and consume it at night for benefits.

Pineapple Turmeric Smoothie: Take one cup of pineapple cubes, one ripe banana, one tablespoon fresh grated turmeric, one tablespoon fresh grated ginger and one glass of milk. In a blender, add all these ingredients, then blend it for about 30 seconds until it is a thick smoothie. It is ready, enjoy.

Turmeric Kadha: Boil 2 cups of water, add grated ginger, turmeric, tulsi, and black pepper. Bring it to a boil, strain and serve with a cube of jaggery.

Haldi Besan Laddoo: To make these, combine 500 gms besan with 250 gms ghee and cook until the raw smell disappears, add turmeric, nuts, jaggery and combin them to make laddoos.

Haldi Ajwain Water: Soak 1 tsp ajwain in 2 cups of water, bring it to a boil, add turmeric, stir and consume it in morning.

Correct. Plus its very beneficial for Allergies, coughs and colds. But the one Turmeric powder you get is adulterated and you wont have any benefits if you consume it. You need to buy fresh turmeric, dry it, powder it and use it.
