Practical ways to tackle bloating

Always feeling stuffed and bloated after finishing your meals? Well, the problem is not uncommon and is faced by a majority of people. There can be a plethora of reasons behind it like overeating, not chewing properly, drinking sodas with food and laying down immediately after eating. The issue of bloating can be easily tackled with the below-given solutions. Do include these solutions in your daily life and say hello to a healthier and happier gut. (all image credits-istock)

2/7

10-min walk

Always make it a point to take a light stroll after your meals. It is advised to take a 10-min stroll, however, if you have a time crunch, at least walk for 5 minutes. You need not go to a park or even step outside your house for the same, you can simply walk inside your home and clock 5-10 minutes on the clock. Don’t walk briskly and take light and slow steps. This will help in regulating your blood sugar, which spikes right after eating and also push the food towards faster digestion.

3/7

Proper chewing

If you have a habit of watching TV or using your phone while eating food, then there are high chances that you are not chewing the food properly. Improper chewing of food puts unnecessary pressure on the stomach, while further results in stomachache and bloating. While eating, be watchful of the number of times you are chewing the food. Eat slowly and try to chew each bite at least 32 times.

4/7

Fennel seeds

There is a reason behind restaurants serving a bowl of fennel seeds once we are done with the meal. Fennel seeds not only act as a mouth freshener but also boosts the digestion process. Essential oils present in fennel seeds accelerate the production of digestive enzymes in the stomach and even soothes the gastrointestinal tract.

5/7

Cumin Tea

Cumin is another great option for those dealing with bloating every now and then. For those dealing with pitta imbalance, Cumin Tea can help in striking a balance. Cumin Tea can be prepared by boiling 1 tsp cumin seeds in 1 cup of water for 5 minutes. Just strain the tea and drink it warm. Cumin Tea helps in controlling gas which is the main culprit behind bloating.

6/7

Say no to sodas

Drinking cold drinks and sugary sodas with meals not only fill the stomach with excess air while eating but also reacts with the food, which might lead to stomach ache. Since sodas contain carbon dioxide, the fizzy bubbles get trapped in your stomach in the form of gas which puffs up your stomach, resulting in bloating.

7/7

Portion Control

If you have a habit of overeating, especially your favourite foods, then practicing portion control will bring about a pivotal change in your life. While eating, eat only 80% of your hunger. This habit will reduce the load on your stomach and will also face the issue of bloating permanently.
