Health benefits of Sabudana

Sabudana has always come to our rescue during the vrat season. Be it khichdi, kheer or kebabs, sabudana can be used to make a variety of dishes. Sabudana is that one ingredient that is safe to have in any form while fasting. Every desi household, all over India prepares dishes out of this ingredient during pujas and vrats. Sabudana makes our vrat yummier and healthier. Not only is it easy to cook, it is also loaded with several health benefits and here are some of the reasons why having sabudana is considered healthy. The powerhouse of energy

Sabudana is a potent energizer as it is loaded with simple sugars and starch. Having sabudana post fasting helps in regaining all the energy lost throughout the day. Being high in carbs, it provides the body with instant energy. The starch is easily metabolized and turned into glucose which doesn’t let the energy level go down and also prevents fatigue and dizziness.(Image: istock)

Maintains blood sugar level

People suffering from high blood sugar and diabetes are always advised not to fast or go without food for a longer period of time. Having sabudana helps keep the blood sugar level in check even while fasting. It is fibrous in nature and aids in digestion and also doesn’t let the sugar level spike all of a sudden. 4/6

Gluten free

Sabudana is safe for those who suffer from gluten allergies. Those with intolerance to wheat and other grains often don’t have the option to have puris or parathas post fasting. One can have sabudana in such situations as it is gluten-free and can be easily used as a substitute. Doctors often suggest sabudana to patients suffering from celiac disease. (Image: istock)

Maintains blood pressure

The blood pressure level in our bodies tends to fluctuate while following a fast. The potassium content in sabudana helps in maintaining a normal blood pressure level. It also helps the heart by ensuring a healthy blood flow throughout the body. It is heart healthy as it reduces the stress on your heart. (Image: istock)

Gives strength

Being rich in proteins, sabudana helps provide strength and also promotes muscle growth. It also helps in the regrowth of cells and repair of worn-out muscle tissues. This makes sabudana a healthy post workout meal as well. (Image: istock)
