Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej, is a popular Hindu festival that is celebrated with much fervour and joy. Akshaya in Sanskrit means 'never diminishing' and Tritiya means 'third'. It is an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar that is celebrated on the third lunar day of the bright moon of Vaisakha/ Baisakh month. It is the only day in a year when the sun and the moon are simultaneously at their peak of brightness. Therefore any purchase made on this day is believed to bring prosperity and good luck. It is believed that starting any good work on Akshaya Tritiya bears fruitful results and if you donate a few things on this auspicious day, you can attain long life, wealth and prosperity.

- Akshaya Tritiya is an annual springtime festival of Hindus and Jains.

- The day also marks the birth of Lord Parshuram(sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

- Veda Vyas and Lord Ganesha started writing the Mahabharata on this day.

- Beginning a new venture on this auspicious day brings success and good fortune.

- It is believed that the sun and the moon are at their brightest on Akshaya Tritiya.

- Akshaya Tritiya marks the beginning of the Treta Yuga (2nd epoch).

On the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya if you are not able to buy gold, which actually is very expensive on this day, you can still bring luck,says Celebrity Spiritual Healer Shweta Bisht. According to her. "If you are not able to buy gold on this auspicious day you can buy food items like Legume, Rice, Wheat flour and specially Ghee which will bring prosperity in your life and home."

Buying lentils is considered lucky, as it is the ultimate symbol of wealth and prosperity. Lentils resemble tiny coins which are symbolic of money. These coins swell when soaked and cooked in water which could signify increasing wealth.
