Viral dating trap: Man scammed by Delhi restaurant, claims was billed for "diamond", "extra"
Imagine meeting someone for a date and being scammed! Well, this isn’t something new for people finding their matches online, but a recent scam pointed out by a Delhi man who paid a whopping bill of Rs. 17,983 on his date raised concerns about Delhi’s growing food scam. Here’s all you need to know about it…
What happened?
Recently, a Delhi-based man took to the internet to say that he was scammed during his first date. He took to Reddit and captioned his post with a title: “Food scam in Delhi is happening a lot, and no one wants to respond or what?? This post garnered mass attention, and people expressed their views on this growing food scam. Here’s more to it!
The honey trap
The Redditor recently posted that he had to pay a bill of ₹17,983 on a date when he visited an eatery in Malviya Nagar, Delhi. Much like him, many netizens in the comments pointed out how this has turned out to be a common food scam where people meet online and pay a whopping bill, and in most cases, the restaurants and cafes are also aware of this scam.
“The OP (@/Hopeful-Table-9125) shared a picture of a food bill of ₹17,983 and asked, ‘Where is the law in this city, bro? Or is it fine to keep my mouth shut? ”
Here’s all about the scam!
The man went on a date to a cafe named Urban Cafe in Malviya Nagar; the meeting place was decided by the girl he met online through a dating app. Interestingly, the restaurant had decent reviews, but when the bill was shared, it had major issues that shocked the man as the highest proceed amount was mentioned in the bill as “Extra, which cost about Rs 9000, and another weird mention on the menu was “Daimond,” which added another ₹3,499 to the bill. Many men have complained about similar scams wherein they were asked to pay huge amounts after they went on online dates.
While this scam left netizens furious, while many shared their experiences on such dates, some took it on the lighter note and pointed out spelling errors in the bill and menu and called it a scam in itself. However, most people advised the user to reach out to the police and file a complaint.
What’s your take on this, and are Google-based food ratings actually trustworthy?

In 2024, I started using Coins to trade cryptocurrencies, and at first, everything went smoothly. The platform was easy to use, and my assets and transactions appeared secure. I had no issues or complaints. However, things took a turn in mid-2024 when I swapped USDT for SUI. The transaction was confirmed on the blockchain explorer, but SUI never showed up in my Coins account. I quickly contacted customer support, expecting a swift resolution. They acknowledged the issue and explained they were facing technical difficulties but assured me that my funds were safe. They recommended several troubleshooting steps, such as refreshing the app, checking my transaction history, and verifying the transaction ID. I followed all their suggestions, but despite my efforts, SUI still wasn’t visible in my account. Weeks passed, and I followed up with customer service multiple times. Each time, I received similar responses: they were still working on the issue, but it would take longer to resolve. Despite their reassurances, I became increasingly frustrated. My SUI was still missing, and there was no clear timeline for when the issue would be addressed. By December 2024, I reached out to customer service again, hoping for a resolution. This time, the response was blunt and unhelpful. The representative told me they couldn’t provide an estimate on when my funds would be restored and suggested I contact “CryptoGuard Recovery Team” for further assistance. At this point, I was skeptical, but I decided to follow their advice. Fortunately, reaching out to CryptoGuard Recovery Team via email: cryptoguardrecovery 211 at gmail at com proved to be the turning point. Their team was professional, responsive, and efficient. Within a short period, they helped me recover my SUI. Their excellent support was crucial in resolving the issue that customer service had been unable to. Though the experience was frustrating, it ultimately ended on a positive note, thanks to the assistance of CryptoGuard Recovery Team.Read allPost comment
