Man finds live worms in food ordered from cloud kitchen in this city
A recent incident involving a Bengaluru man has raised concerns over food safety in cloud kitchens. The customer, who ordered from FreshMenu—a popular cloud kitchen known for offering healthy meals—discovered a live worm in one of his food containers. This discovery, shared in a viral video, has drawn significant attention online, leading to widespread criticism of the cloud kitchen.
The shocking discovery
The incident occurred when the customer placed an order with FreshMenu through Zomato. Upon receiving the food, the man opened one of the boxes and found a live worm squirming inside. He filmed the disturbing sight and shared the video online. In the video, the customer zoomed in on the worm, visibly upset. He chose not to open the other boxes in his order, expressing concern and stating that he had requested Zomato to investigate the matter. Additionally, the man pointed out a discrepancy on the receipt, which listed four items, even though he had ordered only three.
FreshMenu’s apology and explanation
Following the viral video, FreshMenu issued a public apology and explained the situation. The Cloud Kitchen acknowledged that the incident was a result of a “manual error.” The company, which markets itself as serving meals made from 100% natural ingredients, clarified that this was an isolated incident.
“At FreshMenu, we use 100% natural ingredients, exactly as they are available in nature, to bring you fresh and wholesome meals. While we have always taken the utmost care to ensure these are thoroughly checked during the preparation process, a manual error occurred in this instance, leading to this regrettable incident,” FreshMenu stated in their response.
FreshMenu also mentioned that they acted quickly once they learned about the issue, with their team visiting the customer in person to apologize and address his concerns. They further assured the public that disciplinary action had been taken against the staff involved and that they were taking steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
Social media backlash
Despite the apology, the incident sparked strong criticism from social media users. Many shared their own negative experiences with FreshMenu. One user commented, “I have actually fallen sick multiple times because of food from FreshMenu and they sell their food so cheap for a reason I feel.”
Another user expressed more severe dissatisfaction, writing, “FreshMenu should be banned … All the sub outlets opened in other names too. Pure scam, bad food quality, and quantity.” These reactions reflect growing skepticism towards cloud kitchens, especially those offering inexpensive meal options, with many questioning the quality and safety of such food.
A growing concern for cloud kitchens
This incident comes amid growing concerns about the standards of food safety at cloud kitchens. As more people turn to these delivery-only services, issues like this one are raising alarms about hygiene and quality control. While cloud kitchens provide convenience, consumers often have no way of knowing how their food is prepared or whether it meets basic safety standards.
