Red food colouring also known as Carmine is one of the darkest secrets that are hidden by food companies and restaurants. Yes, you will be shocked to know that the eye-grabbing red colour actually comes from the extracts of a red coloured bug known as Cochineal, which is a native to Latin America. Every year millions of bugs are harvested and processed to create this food colour. In fact, around 70,000 bugs are required to make around 1 pound of red colouring.
