Is there any connection between bat soup and Coronavirus?

Variety is the spice of life’ and this is what every foodie swears by. While we try to make the best of dishes around the world, at times, the incorrect information misleads us and this is what happened when the image of a woman with bat soup surfaced and people started connecting bats to Coronavirus. If reports are to be believed more than 800 people are infected by this virus globally. Till date, it has killed 26 people in China.

Social media buzz

The news came under scrutiny when footage of people eating the bat soup turned viral on social media. In one of the clips, a girl was seen eating a black bat with a pair of chopsticks.

What is Coronavirus?

First identified in the 1960s, it is a kind of common virus that causes an infection in the nose, sinuses, or upper throat. Studies say that some of the coronaviruses are fatal. They get their name from their crown-like shape and can infect both animals and humans.
4/6

Is bat soup the reason?

There is no official confirmation that bat soup can be a reason behind coronavirus. In an age where people get carried away by social media posts, this can be one of those cases. Scientists have not yet given any confirmation in this regard.

What statistics say?

In China, over 500 cases of the disease have been registered, but sadly nothing concrete has been documented how the virus has spread between humans and bats. In the opinion of scientists, “there may be an unknown intermediate”. The Medical Research Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis says that the estimated number of people infected with coronavirus in Wuhan is around 4,000, with a range between 1,000 and 9,700.

Preventive measure

In China, people have been asked not to travel in and out of Wuhan and also avoid eating outside.
