Indian food is considered to be rich in flavours, and it’s not just us who consider it the best, but it's being recognised across the globe as well. There are so many dishes in Indian cuisine that are considered comfort food, but the one dish that stands out is ‘Rajma Chawal’. It’s a soul-satiating dish that holds a special place in Indian households. The aromatic blend of red kidney beans simmered in a flavourful onion & tomato-based gravy, which is paired with fluffy & steamed rice that creates a comforting harmony of taste and texture. Recently, the global food catalogue Taste Atlas has recognised Rajma Chawal as the best bean dishes in the world. Not just Rajma Chawal, but the travel online guide has also named Rajma in the list. While Rajma is listed at number 18, Rajma Chawal has been listed at number 24 and was ranked based on a remarkable rating of 4.2 out of 5 for Rajma and a commendable rating of 4.1 out of 5. These rankings do justify the universal love for Rajma.

The Taste Atlas website has mentioned about Rajma as, “Although closely associated with North India, where it is a staple food, red kidney bean was actually brought to the country from central Mexico and Guatemala, but the Mexican version of the dish is much different than the Indian one. Hearty and nutritious, Rajma remains one of the most loved vegetarian curries in Punjab and North India.”

Wondering, which dish has won the race? Well, Greece’s Gingandes Plaki is named number 1 with a rating of 4.6 out of 5. This dish is prepared with large white beans in tangy tomato sauce with lots of extra virgin olive oil and some veggies. This dish is also known as Greek-style Baked Giant Beans and can be enjoyed in dinner. It was followed by ‘Khoresh Gheymeh’ (with a rating of 4.5 out of 5) from Iran that is prepared with yellow split beans and Pasulj at 3rd spot with a rating of 4.5, which is from Serbian Soup made with white beans.
